Overview of the Bulgarian CourseThe Bulgarian Course I & II is divided into 30 units, many of which are composed of dialogues, notes, and supplemental vocabulary. The course assumes the student has no prior knowledge of Bulgarian and is fully self-instructional. This means that while an instructor/native speaker was supposed to help teach the course, it is not imperative to learn Bulgarian. Volume I contains 23 CDs and a 496 page textbook or 1 DVD with all lessons on MP3 with the textbook in a PDF file format. Volume II contains 11 CDs and a 464 page textbook or the DVD option. Bulgarian demonstrates several linguistic innovations that set it apart from other Slavic languages. Bulgarian is closely related to Macedonian but generally regarded as a distinct language. Bulgarian is from the Balkan region and is spoken in Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, the Western Outlands region in Serbia, Romania, Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, among emigrant communities worldwide by about 12 million total speakers. The course assumes no previous knowledge of Bulgarian or any other Slavic language. It uses the Cyrillic alphabet that is taught through side-by-side presentation of English translations and phonetics. The course presents lessons in dialogues, drills, exercises, and English language narration.
